My website is finally up again after weeks of being down. I promise this will not happen again. Let me explain why. I had noticed for months that I had been getting spam comments on all my posts. I know they were spam because the URL on them was ChatGPT….
Removing Yandex cookies
I just wanted to let you know that I am removing all cookies and trackers from Yandex.ru. I haven’t really used their Webmaster tool at all– the website is all in Russian, and my content is in English– and I’ve decided I want to stick to Google Analytics. I will update…
The challenge of representing abstract ideas with photography
An issue that has been ever-present in my photography projects has been how to represent what I want to express. This sounds obvious and simple if your projects are focused on tangible subjects (like a wedding or even a newsworthy event). There is “real material” to work with. Within the “box” of reality, you rarely feel limited if enough can be said about the subject. There is always another way to frame the physical world when you are talking directly about it. But what if your subject is abstract, and you still want to express it using the medium of photography? I have run into this dilemma already, even in my first-year photography classes.
Some Sims from Les Misérables
If you’ve read my blog extensively, you probably know that I love Les Misérables (though only the book, the anime Shoujo Cosette, and the 1978 movie, not most parts of the musical). Of course, I especially love Javert. I knew I just had to play with Sims from the book,…
Real: a photographic series
For my final project in my photography class this semester, I composed a series that I titled Real. The concept of it is the sense I have had throughout my life that many people live according to a norm consisting of the following characteristics: Those are key characteristics of being…
My first real composition!
I’ve composed my very first composition, a violin and piano duet! It is based on the music from “Road to Avonlea”. I hope you enjoy it!

Discovering specific narratives in Apollodorus and Hyginus using a topic model
I’ve published a Pluto notebook to show what happens when you filter out family relationship terms from Apollodorus’ Library and Hyginus’ Fabulae. It is my adaptation of a tool created by Neel Smith. My aim was to see if I could uncover topics with specific plots and connected names and…
Markdown: a beautifully simple, easy to learn markup language!
I never knew Markdown existed until I started college. One of the classes I am taking right now uses Julia, a 21st-century programming language built for versatility and speed. Among other advantages, Julia supports Markdown out of the box. When you attach md to a string, a macro formats the…
Why Jane Eyre and Fanny Price are SLI, not EII
In my life, I consistently look to Jane Eyre and Fanny Price as role models for living. These two young women of faith both have an indomitable core of integrity, and their commitment to their beliefs makes them glow from the inside. Interestingly to me, they have quite a few similar traits.
The most common type assignment I have seen for both is EII-Fi. This makes sense– EIIs are quiet, often spiritual, interested in love, and usually fond of art and literature. However, they are also passive and dispassionate. They don’t, as my EII friend put it, “walk around with a quest”. “I feel like I’ve never really wanted anything in my life,” he said. “At least not like SLIs do.”
